The Food Garden

The 2018 Food Garden Season Summary.

The last Saturday of October was the last working day in the garden and we have put the garden to bed for the winter.  Thanks to all the volunteers that worked in the food garden this year.  With everyone’s efforts we harvested a total of 850 lbs. of beans, beets, cabbage, collard greens, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, kale, lettuce, melons, okra, onions, peppers and tomatoes.  The produce was donated to the St. Martin de Porres House of Hope and the SPR food pantry.  Thanks to everyone for making this, our 7th season, successful and hope to see you in the garden in 2019.

Food Garden: Help us grow fresh organic produce for the St. Martin de Porres Woman’s Shelter in Woodlawn and SPR’s Food Pantry. We meet in the garden on Saturdays 9-11am. All experience levels are welcome. For more information, contact George Chlipala: chlige@yahoo.com.

The SPR Food Garden- 2017
In 2017, together we grew and harvested 1230 lbs. of fresh produce that was distributed to both the St. Martin de Porres House of Hope, a non-profit recovery home for homeless women and their children who are affected by substance abuse (http://www.smdp-hoh.org); and the SPR Food Pantry, which provides food to our neighbors in need.  Thanks again for everyone’s hard work this season and we look forward to next spring and the 2018 gardening season.
