Giving Help

Where does SPR get the food?
Some items are donated by parishioners, and some produce is grown in our food garden. SPR purchases additional canned goods, dry goods, meat, dairy and produce products from the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

When can I bring in food?
The SPR food pantry will gratefully accept food donations on Sunday mornings (they may be left in the food pantry closet in the narthex/foyer) or Wednesdays from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Donations may be left at the parking lot entrance or brought to the side door on 50th Street at Dorchester.

Can I donate money?
If you pledge to SPR, you already have. The pantry is supported by money from the general operating budget.  If you want to give more, write a check with “Food Pantry” in the memo and mail it to us at
4945 S Dorchester Ave, Chicago, IL 60615.

Who is served?
The food pantry serves an average of 40 households a week, representing 100 individuals from the neighborhoods surrounding the church.

Can I volunteer?
Yes. Help with distribution between 3:30-5:30p on Wednesdays. Contact Linda Wheatley-Irving for more information.
